What to include in a Receipt template

There are numerous details that should be included in your Receipt.

Make sure your Receipt has the correct information below, based on the item you have sold.

  • Receipt details: Include a unique receipt number, the date in DD/MM/YYYY format, and optionally the time in 24-hour format.
  • Parties: State the buyer’s full name and address, and the seller’s name and address (or business details), plus VAT number for dealers.
  • Motor vehicle details: If you sell a motor vehicle, record the registration mark, VIN/Chassis, make, model, year, colour, body type, and mileage in miles.
  • Watercraft/Boat details: It you are selling a boat, note the make, model, year, colour, style/length, HIN/ID, and optionally the SSR or Part I number.
  • Trailer details: Provide the registration mark (if any), make, model, year, colour, style, and VIN/Chassis/ID if you are selling a trailer.
  • Personal property details: Leave a clear description of the item and include any relevant serial or identification numbers.

For private sales, make sure that you state the total paid. For dealers under Standard VAT, list the net amount, VAT rate, VAT amount, total, and VAT invoice number.

If you are going to use a Margin Scheme sales, show the total with a “Margin Scheme” note and stock book reference; also specify the payment method (cash, bank transfer, cheque, or other) and any payment reference.

When should I use a Receipt?
